她自幼在江苏镇江长大，却因洋人面孔被讥为“怪物”；她深爱中国文化，却饱受跨文化身份冲突的折磨。
穿越军阀混战、南京惨案的乱世，她以《大地》揭露农民苦难，成为首位获得诺贝尔文学奖的美国女作家。日本侵华期间，她在美国发动社会各界为中国人民捐款610万美元；她主导废除了《排华法案》，她一生创作了104本书。
这是一个关于女性平权、跨文化理解与人道主义光芒的文学抗争史。
编剧兼导演张西，制作人阿朵，枫香硅谷剧社倾情演绎。该剧社曾演绎过张西的原创作品《飞虎恋》《哥大的椅子》。
该剧将于2025年12月7日、12月14日，分别在San Ramon和Sunnyvale演出四场。
Play “Pearl S. Buck” – Synopsis
This drama tells the legendary life of American writer Pearl S. Buck during China’s turbulent years:
Raised in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, she was mocked as a “monster” for her foreign face, yet she deeply loved Chinese culture and struggled with her cross-cultural identity.
Amid the warlord conflicts and the Nanjing Massacre, she wrote The Good Earth, exposing the suffering of Chinese peasants and becoming the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
During Japan’s invasion of China, she helped raise $6.1 million in the U.S. for the Chinese people and led efforts to repeal the Chinese Exclusion Act. Over her lifetime, she authored 104 books.
It is a story of women’s empowerment, cross-cultural understanding, and the enduring light of humanitarianism.
Written and directed by Zhang Xi, produced by A Duo, and performed by Maple Silicon Valley Drama。
